Clean Firefox history

Firefox remembers information about the websites you have visited, information you have entered on websites, what you downloaded, etc., to speed up web surfing and making it more convenient. But these history tracks could compromise your privacy, as anyone who has access to your computer can see sensitive information you may want to keep private.

Clean browsing history
Browsing history stores the list of websites you have visited.

To clean browsing history in Firefox 3.5 and later versions, follow the steps below:
Open Firefox and click on the Tools menu.

Open the History menu and select 'Clear Recent History'.

Clean Firefox history

Select the time range to clear.
Click the 'arrow' button next to 'Details' to select 'Browsing & Download history' and click 'Clear Now'.

Download history
Download history contains the list of files you have downloaded.

To clean download history in Firefox 3.5 and later versions, follow the steps below
Open Firefox and click on the Tools menu

Open the History menu and select 'Clear Recent History'

Select the time range to clear.
Click the 'arrow' button next to 'Details' to select 'Browsing & Download history' and click 'Clear Now'

Form history (form autocomplete) includes the items you have entered on websites

To clean form history in Firefox 4.0/3.5:
Open the 'Clear Recent History' window

From the 'Time range to clear' menu select the necessary period.
Open the 'Details' menu and select Form and Search history, then click 'Clear Now'

Search history
Search history includes the items you have searched using the Search bar.

To clean search history in Firefox 4.0
Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete to open the 'Clear Recent History' window

Select the required period from the 'Time range to clear' menu.
Open the 'Details' menu and select Form and Search history, then click 'Clear Now'

Cookies
Cookies store information about websites you visit, your surfing preferences, choices you have made on the website, etc.

To clean cookies in Firefox
Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete and in the 'Clear Recent History' window select time range to clear and under 'Details' Cookies. Then click 'Clear Now'

Cache
Cache stores the content of all the webpages you have visited to speed up the displaying of webpages you frequently visit

To clean cache in Firefox 4.0:
Open Firefox and click on the Tools menu at the top of the Firefox window

Open the History menu and select 'Clear Recent History'

Click the drop-down menu next to 'Time range to clear' to choose the necessary period.
Form the 'Details' menu select Cache and click 'Clear Now'

How to clean Firefox history automatically

Open Firefox and click on the Tools menu at the top of the Firefox window

Open the Options window, click the drop-down menu next to 'Firefox will', choose 'Use custom settings for history' and check 'Clear history when Firefox closes'.
